Presence of Lord

Presence of Lord is like pillars of fire in the dark nights of life filling my heart with peace which world can’t take away.

Presence of Lord is like Pillar of cloud providing me comfort as I pass through desert of hard life in which world is pushing me.

Presence of Lord is like River of joy and peace flowing through HIM into my heart which doesn’t depend on circumstances.

Presence of Lord is like a beautiful garden in the cool of day through which my soul rejoices as I follow HIM.

Presence of Lord creates songs of HIS praise in my heart as I experience beauty of HIS holiness.

Presence of Lord making LORD Jesus CHRST my first love heals my heart.

Presence of Lord leading to narrow but straight path of life which is shining with HIS glory humbles my pride.

Presence of Lord shows me how precious is Truth; precious more than life.

Presence of Lord gives me Faith and strength to walk after HIM when desert of life is full of fiery serpents.

Presence of LORD makes me sing song of praise unto Blessed Lord though world is falling apart around me.

Presence of Lord gives me reason to live and reason to die in HIS name.

Beloved Connection to God

God has written eternity on the heart of man; thus we are left with this void in our lives that we long to have filled. Some run after earthly pursuits such as women and hope that physical love (better known as lust) will fill that void. Others search for it in working, in running here and there. Religions become a pursuit to fill that void that can only be filled by being in the presence of the Love of God.

Disconnection is a terrible thing and although many run after many gods and pleasures and religious places and practices, they are not satisfied, their heart cries, “Is there not more to God than this?” God seems so far away, how can this God, who is distant and doesn’t answer my needs, love me?

The answer perhaps lies in the connection. Just like an electrical current that is not plugged into its source, the light will not shine. And if the conductor is not right there is no current. If a silk cloth, no matter how precious and beautiful it is, is used; then there is no current, for the conductor is all wrong. If a piece of copper metal is used, then the current runs through the conductor. There is a proper connection.

So it is with us. What connection, what link do we use to reach God? The God of love, that Divine Presence wants that all people be saved and come to a knowledge of the truth so in his mercy and grace, He has also provided a mediator between God and men, the Beloved of God.  The Beloved is the Way, the Truth and the Light and no man goes to the Creator but through Him. God has provided the connection, the right conductor to make that electrical current between you and Him.

One must not follow the thief in sheep’s clothing who will steal, destroy or kill. One must follow the Beloved who is the true gatekeeper, the door, the way to God Almighty, the God of love and mercy. We can follow many others. They may tell you many things that tickle our ears but they are not connected as the Beloved is connected to God. Following the true Beloved is your lifeline, your link, your connection to bow down in the Presence of Divine Love.

The Greatest of All Names

Knowing someone’s name helps define the person, helps us identify that person. And so it is with God. The names of God are many, but the greatest name of God is, I AM. Why do I say that this is His greatest name? Because it defines God at the very essence of who He is. All other names are descriptive names, but I AM is a name of essence.

For a man to say I am, he must provide a description. For example, I am a scholar or I am a man. The creation must be something, it needs to add to I am, it cannot simply be I AM. But God is. He alone can say I AM without adding anything more. From birth to death we are becoming something, we change, but God alone is and is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. He never changes or becomes something different from what he is right now. What he was, he is and will be.

He alone is, there are no other gods before Him. He stands alone as God, therefore He is.

But what sort of God is the Great I AM? Is he far off? Is he loving, cruel, arbitrary or constant? What kind of God is He? One thing we do know from his name I AM is that He is consistent and constant because if he is unchanging, the same yesterday, today and tomorrow, then I AM is trustworthy. Just as we look forward to the rising and the setting of the sun, we know that God will do as he said he will. He always has and he always will. His different names will be discussed in other articles in this blog.

God declared himself as I AM on several occasions. The most memorable occasion was when God appeared to Moses in the burning bush and said, “I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I AM has sent me to you.'” Oh what a glorious message that conveys to us that God is the God of authority, the only God who is forever more. Furthermore He said “This is My name forever, and this is My memorial-name to all generations”, The other significant time He declared this great name was through the Beloved when He said, “Before Abraham was, I AM.”

The greatest Name of God: I AM.

Knowing God in Quiet Seclusion

Dear Shams;

I hear that you frequently get away to quiet places. This pleases my heart for true seekers don’t find God in the hustle and bustle of crowded markets and worldly business or even in religious places or godly pursuits. He is neither known nor found when man is busy with his precious activities and empire building. Rather the true seeker knows him in quiet seclusion where the world crowds not the mind or soul of man. We are to be still for God Himself calls us to be still and know that He is God.

What does it mean to be still? To be still means to let go or release ourselves to the Almighty. We need to come to the place of total submission to God and acknowledge that He is sovereign and in control. Then we must learn to pull away to a secluded place and rest in him, release ourselves to what He wants to say to us and through us. We out to seek Him in a secluded woods or desert or locked away in a closet with the door closed. We need to shut out the world and let God speak to us. We don’t always have to speak to him even though prayer is very important. Sometimes we need to listen to that Divine Love as it flows through our mind and heart. Seclusion frees us from turbulence, from troubles and worries that constantly plague us.

What does it mean to know God? We do not know God as we know a textbook. No, no, it is quite different. We acknowledge him, we are aware of all that He is and is to us. It means we trust him; surrender to His plan for our lives because we now know who He is. We come in harmony with Him so negative thoughts give way to positive thoughts because in seclusion we are able to feel God’s love.

When we are still and know that God is God tranquility overlays the soul and mind to the point where the storms of life are no longer within us, they may surround us, but we no longer internalise them. Fear and agitation is replaced with peace. That Perfect Love casts out fear.

As we come to seek and know Divine Love, our angers and complaints against God flee and so they must

Moonlight Concedes to Sunlight

Valiant moon, the source of life’s first light,

Precepts strove to overcome the darkest night.

Silver threads, illumination was slight.

I stumbled, could not reach God’s lofty height.

Silver beams cast a spiritual way,

A glimpse of the Lord, a shadowed display.

Thankful for morsels it taught me each day,

Reverence for God, instructions to pray.

Hunger plagued me, thirst for waters Divine,

Where’s the Master on whose words I can dine?

Isn’t there more, only this is God’s design?

Yearning heart pleaded, “God show me a sign!”

A vision; Sunlight poured through open door,

Love flooded my soul, it could hold no more.

Guided to still waters, soul to restore.

Led to green pastures, Light streams to heart’s core.

Incomparable ecstasy! Lord’s love.

Approachable, come down from God above.

Life’s spiritual path is radiant Love,

Light, Truth, the Way, sweet communion hereof.

Every creed has its moons beginning life’s way,

But pure, glorious Sunlight is The Way.

Voices Call to Leave the Beloved

I was walking in thick darkness,

So tired like I was walking alone since the world began,

Only familiar thing was death, tasting death every moment;

Then the light shineth in Darkness

Like darkness was nothing, And light is everything;

First time I could see my Beloved.

My Beloved is mine and I am his;

His name is as Ointment poured forth.

His head and His hairs are White like Wool,

As white as snow; and His eyes were as a flame of fire;

And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace;

And his voice as the sound of many waters.

And out of his mouth went a sharp two edged sword:

And his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength.

First time my heart was singing HIS praises,

First time I could see colors round about his throne.

In Him is life and life is the light in me,

But darkness hates light since the world began.

So came all blind.

So came all dead.

So came all lukewarm.

So came all Naked and poor saying,

Come to us we will make you rich.

For by good words and fair speeches we deceive the hearts of the simple,

Leave your Beloved, Come to us;

If you just keep ignoring the small still voice inside you till it die

Look cross is too heavy to bear.

Look you are wounded.

Look you are trying to hide pain in your eyes.

Look your feet are leaving marks of blood.

(The watchmen that went about the city found me, they smote me, they wounded me).

Look your Beloved is leading you to a very narrow way

Where very few people will walk with you,

And all the world will hate you for they hate your Beloved.

Leave your beloved, Come to us,

If you just keep ignoring the small still voice inside you till it die.

No Need for the Moon When the Sun Shines

To my good friend Shams;

I have spent the night under the stars. The moon was at full strength – a full moon. It was a wonderful time to mediate on His Divine Presence; especially when no sounds could disturb me. But the moon is a curious thing, the Creator has his purposes for the moon just as he has for the sun.

The moon, next to the sun is the brightest light in the sky. The moon though doesn’t have its own light, it is reflected light. What is that source of light? Moonlight is reflected sunlight. What we see is about three percent of sunlight hitting the moon’s surface. If it wasn’t for the sun, we would see only the moon’s black surface.

Isn’t this so much like the prophets who have shone their light on our paths? Every age and every place has had its prophets. Each one of them shows us some aspect of the Sunshine from on High. In fact when the sun is on the same side as the moon we don’t see the moon at all, this is what we call the New Moon. A prophet comes for a short time, enlightens us as he can, but he has his limitations. A prophet only reflects what the Sunlight from on High shines on him. If only three percent falls on the moon, then perhaps that is about the same amount that shines on the prophets who have come to us showing us the pathway to the Almighty. It is something I have thought on for some time.

We can be very thankful for our moons that point the way to God. They have given us our baby steps and done what they can with the light they had been given. But like the moon, prophets only reveal what the Sunshine has revealed to them.

So when the Sunshine from on High comes out, the moon fades away, very much like the New Moon that cannot be seen when the sun is on the same side as it. Such is the sun for the Sun of Righteousness will rise with healing in its wings. The Lord God is a sun and a shield. The LORD gives grace and glory. Such is the Sunrise from on High that has visited us to shine upon those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace. From the Sun we get one hundred percent sunlight.

It is not that we can forget the prophets that have gone before us, showing us illumination as they were given, but when the Sunrise from on High comes, the moon fades away for in the Sunlight we have no need for the moon. It has done its work. It is just as one prophet said when he saw the arrival of the Sunrise from on High, “He must increase and I must decrease.” That is the way of the prophets, they must give way to the Beloved Sun.

Yours truly;

Know God’s Heart

Lord, let me “deny myself” by beginning to be what I am not, and cease to be what I have been –Gregory the Great

This letter was written to the Patriarch of Constantinople’s physician, Theodore, sometime between 540 and 604 AD. He wrote:

Since God loves most those who rest in his love, I have a complaint to make against the gracious mind of my glorious son, the Lord Theodore. He has received from the Almighty the gift of intellect, of wealth, of mercy and love, and yet he is wholly absorbed in secular affairs. He is fully occupied with the constant ceremonies of the court, and he completely neglects the daily reading of his Beloved’s words.

Yet what is Scripture but God’s letter to his creatures? Now, if you were somewhere abroad and received a letter from your earthy emperor, you would doubtless not pause a moment, you would not rest, you would not sleep, until you had opened it and learned what this earthy emperor had written to you.

The emperor of heaven, the Lord of men and of angels, has sent you his Letters for the saving of your life, and yet, my glorious son, you do not tread them diligently. Study them, I beg you, meditate daily on your creators’ words. Learn from God’s words to know God’s heart, that you may long ever more ardently for the things eternal, that you mind may become inflamed with greater longing for the joys of heaven. For your should will rejoice in a deeper rest hereafter in proportion as it now knows, or rest from the love of God. To be able to do this, then, may almighty God pour upon you his spirit of consolation. May he fill you with his presence and so relieve you of all care.

-Gregory the Great

Serve Only One Master

The Beloved Master showed us by example that we can serve only one master. When tempted forty days in the desert, he was offered all the kingdoms of the world if he would but bow down and worship that great deceiver. To this the Master replied that you shall worship the Lord God and serve Him only. This is the example we should follow.

Everyone needs money to pay for his daily bread. But it is the love of money that is the root of all evil. The love of money destroys our relationship with God and with each other. We do what the heart desires. If our heart desires money then the need for wealth and power consumes us and we have no time to seek the presence of Divine Love. A heart that focuses on wealth cannot love God. In fact money becomes our god and when we worship wealth, there is no place in the heart for the Eternal King. Kindness and love towards others is crowed out. Oppression, hatred, greed, envy, strife overpower love for others.

Take a look around you. What do you see? A man goes to a place of worship and prays to receive the praise of men’s eyes. Yet in his business, his scales are dishonest. He cheats his customers to earn a few extra coins. Doesn’t this happen all around? Has not this very thing happened to you? Who or what is his true love? God or wealth?

Our Beloved Master asks us not to store up for ourselves the treasures of earth, where moth and rust can destroy and thieves can break in and steal. Rather we are to store up for ourselves treasures in heaven where neither moth nor rust destroy and where thieves cannot enter.

If we are true seekers of the presence of the Almighty, then we need to make a choice; for where our treasure is, that is where our heart will be. No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other. Said differently, he will be devoted to one master and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and wealth. There can be only one Master.
